A study on the relationship between vitamin D and alzheimer concluded that a lack of this vitamin increases the risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.
The study conducted by the University of Exeter ( EU ) with the collaboration of various American universities and funded by the Alzheimer’s Association studied for six years to nearly 2,000 adults over 65 years without mobility problems, no symptoms of dementia or cardiovascular problems.
The results have been published by the prestigious journal Neurology are available here , concluding that adults who had moderate deficiency of vitamin D had a 53% greater chance of developing any type of dementia and 69% to be affected by the alzheimer, while those who had a severe deficiency of vitamin D saw increased risk of developing dementia by 125% and 122% alzheimer.
The study authors believe that now need to investigate whether a diet rich in vitamin D can delay or even prevent the onset of any kind of dementia and Alzheime’s.
