Overweight? Tips to get your life on track

Weight Loss

If you’re in a position where you’re obese or overweight, it can be difficult to know where to start when you’re trying to get your life on track. When a man was asked how to eat an elephant, he wisely responded that you have to eat it one bite at a time. The same concept applies to any major hurdle a person is trying to overcome. In order to take steps in the right direction, consider the following tips.

1. Portion control
Many people make the assumption that when you are trying to lose weight, you have to eat gross foods. You can actually eat delicious foods that you enjoy. The trick is that you have to really watch your portions. While it’s wise to stay away from greasy foods, there are still ways to cook your favorite foods and cut out a huge portion of the fat and grease. Be strategic and you’ll see how doable it really is.

2. Food journal
Keep track of everything you eat. It can be so easy for many people to think they’re eating well and in fact, they’re eating way more than they should be. Write down your foods in a food journal and count the calories. As you add up the calories and get clear on how much you need to burn to lose weight, it’ll be easier to create a plan and hit the goal of losing weight.

3. Daily physical activity
Physical exercise is essential to the weight loss journey. If you don’t move your body, you’ll continue to live a sedentary life and it does nothing for your health. If you’re currently inactive, find ways to integrate activity into each day. Go for a walk around the neighborhood. Do jumping jacks as soon as you get up in the morning. Find workouts that you love to do. Swimming is fun for many people and is gentle on the joints. If you love dancing, go to a cardio dance class to get the heart pumping. As you get stronger, you’ll want to mix up the workouts and find more exercises that’ll get you excited to workout.

4. Multi-vitamins and supplements
If you’re always reaching for coffee and struggle to be alert in the morning, it might be time to consider a good multi-vitamin in your diet. It’s important to have natural sources of energy to help fuel your workout regimen. It’s also okay to supplement your diet with other vitamins and systems that help with weight loss. There are diet pills that work from ThinCo and this is an option to try when you’re looking to lose weight. Just make sure to check in with your physician first.

5. Water
Oftentimes, people are so used to eating copious amounts of food and make the mistake of eating when they’re really thirsty. Drink more than you eat. Focus on drinking half of your body weight in ounces. If you weight 200 pounds, drink 100 ounces of water each day. As you continue to consistently flush your system of the toxins, you won’t be as hungry and will feel satisfied for longer periods of time.

6. Rest
Many people underestimate the power of rest to help you shed the pounds. If you’re a late night owl, it’s important to work on getting into bed by 11 each night. If you’re not there yet, begin to work on developing a bedtime routine to help you get to that point. You can include a nice bubble bath, relaxing music and a great book to cozy up with. As you get more quality sleep, you’ll feel better and increase your chances of dropping weight.

7. Incentives
A weight loss journey is understandably difficult. However, this doesn’t mean you should give up or give in. In fact, a great way to continue involves incentivizing the process. Once you drop the first ten pounds of weight, treat yourself to a nice massage. For each five to ten pounds, do something special to motivate yourself. Try to make sure that the incentive doesn’t involve food. Don’t treat yourself to a huge dessert. Instead, treat yourself to a nice dress at your favorite store or an amazing pair of pumps.
